Admission Procedure

FOR FOUR YEAR UNDER GRADUATE (FYUG) PROGRAMMES
(Selection Criteria)

  • Admission in the FYUG courses of RTU will be via SAMARTH portal and in order of merit.
  • Interested candidates are advised to register in the SAMARTH portal (https://assamadmission.samarth.ac.in/) and select institutions where they want to pursue FYUG programme in the academic session 2025 – 2026.
  • The marks scored in five of the best subjects, including English and MIL/Alt E, in the HS examination will be taken into consideration when generating a merit list of applicants.
  • Candidates will select the major and other subjects (see prospectus) of FYUG 1st Semester class in the online admission form in the SAMARTH portal.
  • The allotment of major in an opted subject will be done on the basis of merit (as mentioned above).
  • Programme wise merit list of candidates with opted major subjects will be displayed in both university website and SAMARTH portal. Candidates are advised to check admission related updates on the university website (https://rtuassam.ac.in/) regularly.
  • During preparation of merit list the reservation of seats under different categories will be given due weightage.
  • The selected students will be informed about the last date of admission by notification in the institution website. After the last date of admission so informed, no further request for admission will be entertained.
  • As per the Govt. of Assam reservation policy some seats are reserved for OBC/MOBC, SC, ST (P) and ST (H) categories as follows:
    1. Scheduled Caste 7 %
    2. Scheduled Tribes (Plains) 10%
    3. Scheduled Tribes (Hills) 5 %
    4. OBC & MOBC 15 %
    5. EWS 10%

A Maximum of 5 % of seats is also earmarked for outstanding sports persons / NCC cadets/applicants with proficiency in cultural activities / wards of the employee of the institution etc. The breakup as per government circular is as follows:
  1. 2% for sports persons of sports recognised by IOA/SAI and also, for those who have represented District/State/Country.
  2. 1% for wards of employees of the institution.
  3. 1% for NCC/Scouts &Guides.
  4. 1% for the student with achievement in cultural activities.

3% of the total seats will be kept reserved for differently able (person with disabilities) students as per Govt. of Assam norms.
  • A candidate is eligible to take admission under EWS quota on production of a valid certificate from competent authority. The soft copy of the EWS certificate has to be uploaded at the time of online fill up of admission form. These seats are settled on the basis of merit of students concerned in each category.
  • No discretionary quota of seats is filled up by any authority in the institution.
  • No seats are offered for admission by the RTU authorities against donation to the institution fund.
  • The students selected must get themselves admitted on the scheduled date of admission notified by the RTU in the institute notice board / website. Otherwise, their claims for admission will be forfeited.
  • Students from Boards or Universities other than AHSEC and RTU shall have to produce Migration Certificate to the RTU office whenever asked for.
  • There will be restriction of subject combinations applied for. Due to limitation of seats the combination of subjects opted by a candidate may not be allowed.
  • Minimum % of marks required in the Higher Secondary Final Examination to be eligible for applying for admissionin the:
    1. B.A. 1st Year class: 45%
    2. B.Com. 1st Year class: 45%
    3. B.Sc. 1st Year class: 50%
  • Please note that the above mentioned % of marks are only the eligibility criteria of applying for admission. The admission in the different courses will be strictly on the basis of merit and availability of seats against a particular course.
  • To take admission in the FYUG programme in RTU a candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Final Examination in 2022 or later in order to be eligible to apply for admission to UG courses. The completed application (format of which is given below), typed in a A4 size paper, must be submitted in at the time of admission if the Higher Secondary Examination passing year of the candidate is 2022, 2023, or 2024.
